How to Take iPhone Screenshots (1): No App Required (Yet)

Have you ever wondered how to take a quick screenshot of your iPhone? I don't frequently review apps for money or as a hobby, so I was pleasantly surprised when I recently needed some app illustrations at work and learned that the iPhone comes with a fast and free screen capture solution built in.
To take a snapshot of your phone's menu screen or from within an app, just hold down the Home button on the bottom of the phone, then quickly press and release the On/Off button on the top right. Done.
Your screen capture image has now been saved in your iPhone's "Camera Roll." From there, you can email or share it, or dress it up with your favorite photo editing app. The same trick also works on the iPad.
I used it to take the picture of the screen of the iPhone displayed in this post. Stay tuned for my next post on this topic, where I will explain how to apply a bit of illustration magic, and what you can do to show your screenshot in its "natural habitat," using a black iPhone as a frame.
