Look at Advertising, Get 50 GB Free Cloud Space in Return

Posted on October 7th, 2013 | By Gerd Meissner

That's the deal - at least for the time being - over at ADdrive. The company is based in Emeryville, California. The service offers plenty of free space to store and share files in the cloud with its Personal Basic account option, if you don't mind the advertising banners they serve up once you are logged in to your account.

My first impression: nothing fancy, but does the job. The user interface looks a bit too crowded and old-fashioned for my taste, compared to the clean, minimalistic design of cloud services like Dropbox, Copy or Shared .

But that's in part due to the advertising banners ADrive displays for its Personal Basic account users, and I suspect for 50 free gigs of more space to store their music or photo collection, most consumers won't mind, and many small business owners won't either.

At ADrive's free account level, you can backup, share, edit, and access your data whenever you are logged on to the Internet through a web browser like Microsoft Explorer, Firefox or Chrome. On the go, you can use the ADdrive app (advertising-supported, as well) for iOS on your iPhone or iPad or for Android-based smartphones and other mobile devices.

ADrive also offers an affiliate program that promises 50% commission on the initial payment for every Personal Premium and Business user who signs up using a program participant's Affiliate ID. I took them up on it, and will keep you posted.

As of October 2013, for $ 25 annually (30-day risk-free trial, no credit card required) you get an ad-free Personal Premium account, 100 GB space, client software to install on your computer, a higher level of data protection and many additional features, like the option to set an expiration date on shared files.
